Indie electronic music is subgenre of the incredibly broad electronic genre that became extremely popular in the 80s. Indie electronic is a fairly new term that was first started in the late 2000s and consists of quite a few further subgenres like indie pop, garage electro, chillstep, deep house, electro-pop, dance-pop and alternative dance. It started online on websites such as Soundcloud where people often experiment with music and push boundaries of older genres. While it is still consolidating as it’s still so new it’s difficult to pin down what indie electronic is.

 

Indie electronic is most commonly associated with the new age scene kids and hipsters. They favour muted colours and super slick styles and are always searching for latest trend to jump on to. Indie electronic is also known for being extremely expressive and light-hearted, there’s very rarely a sad or downbeat indie electronic song. There are a huge variety of artists within indie electronic and some of them include Lorde, Naomi Pilgrim, Gramatik, Dye, Kiesza, La Roux, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Jungle, Made In Heights, Passion Pit, Grum, Ta-Ku and Troye Sivan.
