W O M E N   I N   M A G A Z I N E S

To find out what kind of shot I need for my front cover I needed to find out how people are photographed for magazines. Since my model is most likely going to be  a woman, I thought it would be best to investigate the style in which they are photographed and what they try to emphasize.

As you can see in the photos to the left, women are generally shot in a way which shows off their body or part of their body that are classicly considered 'beautiful'. This could either be part of a signiature look or just to make the magazine seem more appealing. As you can see in the magazines featuring Madona, Katy Perry, Lady GaGa and Rihanna, looking sexy or seductive proves to be a common idea as well. A lot of the magazines set women up as seductive characters which can be seen on the cover of both of the Q magazines, Mojo Classic and on NME with Florence Welch. All of these have a stron focus on the the women's faces and show them as being flawless and very suggestive. This appeals to a wide range of audiences as many men are attracted to the beautiful woman on the cover and a vast majority want to look like the woman on the cover so they'd buy the magazine to find out how to look like them.

Clothing is also a much bigger concern for women than it is for men. All the magazines show the women looking dressed up to a certain extent and none of them are shown wearing anything casual such as jeans and a t-shirt. You can see on the cover of Paper magazine that Kim Kardashian is wearing a gorgeous black sequin dress with matching gloves, extravagant jewelery and a sleek, black hairdo to match.
